Before you hit the road this holiday season here are a few things to check to help make the drive safer and less stressful.
So put your safety cap on and make sure your car is up to date with servicing. Seek out a mechanic that offers a free oil and water check and call into your nearest garage to check your tyre pressure. It’s also a good idea to make sure your vehicle registration is current, as well as your insurance.
Plan how you pack the car. Make sure that you and the kids can get to anything you might want during the drive like a water bottle, pillow or favourite teddy. Try to distribute the weight evenly and have the items that you’ll want first when you stop nice and easy to get to.
Have you got some good tunes? Make it a family sing along by putting in a few of the kids favourites. Perhaps you could create a playlist of family driving songs.
What about travel games? Eye Spy is always a hit. Make up a quiz. Or Car Cricket? Played with the oncoming traffic, a car is 1 run, ute is 2 runs, caravan/motorhome is 4 runs, motorbike is 6 runs and a truck is OUT! Or make up your own with different coloured cars etc. Or create a bingo sheet for the kids to tick off things they might see on the drive like traffic lights, a red car, a speed bump… For more ideas of travel games you can play together CLICK HERE.
Pack the kids a travel bag with some books, pencils, colouring pages and activity books.
No one likes sitting in the car for hours so plan a stop along the way to give everyone a chance to stretch their legs, have a snack and refresh their heads.
