The end of the school holidays and cyclone Bianca

It has been an interesting few days here at Mandalay. Friday and Saturday saw the end of the school holidays and a mass exodus of kids, cars, caravans, bikes, boats, scooters, jet skis… the list could go on.

The unexpected change in the beautiful sunny weather we had been having was an unwelcome surprise for some who had the “pleasure” of packing up soggy tents and annexes, and as the day progressed, the forecast seemed to get worse.  By Friday afternoon Busselton was set to experience its first cyclone since Cyclone Alby in 1978.

With the warnings well publicised the phones rang hot with holiday makers checking our current weather and the possibility of starting their holiday once the storm had passed.  All day Saturday we waited and watched the weather maps, with Cyclone Bianca slowly moving her way towards us.  Only the bravest of the brave caravanners arrived, sheepishly putting up annexes and awnings, willing the storm to pass.  By Saturday night we were left wondering where this Bianca was and when she would finally hit, but thankfully she ran out of puff before hitting our shores.  Sunday morning we awoke to beautiful still weather, glassy ocean and only 8mm in the rain gauge.  Finally the cyclone warning had been lifted and life could return to normal.  By Monday most of the caravanners would arrive and Mandalay would once again be back to normal.

School holidays have now finished and we have vacancies in our chalets and beach cottages, call our reception now to enquire about our mid-week three to five night specials.
