Things for you to do and see. A day in Dunsborough and Yallingup
Turn right onto Bussell Highway and travel towards Dunsborough. When in the town stop and enjoy breakfast at one of the many bakeries or cafes. While here take a stroll through the Christian Fletcher Photographic Gallery and see some wonderful photos of the south west.
In the car travel along Naturaliste Terrace to take a tour through the Cape Naturaliste Lighthouse. Alternatively stretch your legs and take a walk along the well defined walk trails and enjoy the spectacular views over Geographe Bay and the cape coast line. Between August and November keep an eye out in the ocean as you may see a Whale or two splashing and having fun in the water. When heading back towards Dunsborough, why not take a little detour down towards Bunkers Bay, Eagle Bay or Meelup Beach. These beaches offer spectacular views and protected calm water great for a leisurely swim or a (snorkel) quick dip. On your way down Eagle Bay drive, call in at Eagle Bay Brewing Company for boutique beer, local wines and delicious lunches. When you come back to Caves Road, turn right towards Yallingup and travel a bit further down the road. Country Life Farm is on your right, this is a great place for children to pat and hold rabbits and guinea pigs as well as hand feeding ponies, cows, kangaroos and more. An indoor playground is open for the children as young as 12 months right up to the age of 12, perfect for a rainy day (or to avoid the heat) or just to let the kids have a run around.
For the more adventurous there is Mirravale Horse Riding or take a semi guided tour through the picturesque Ngiligi Cave. Follow Caves Road towards Margaret River and take a left onto Wildwood Road. Here you’ll find The Shearing Shed which has live sheepdog and shearing shows. Travelling back to Caves Road, just past Spencer Road you will find the Yallingup Maze and Puzzle Games Café. A challenging timber maze with towers, bridges, puzzles and games.
If you would prefer a slower paced afternoon you can browse through one of the many galleries, such as Yallingup Galleries, Furniture Gallery, Gunyulup Gallery, Goanna Gallery or perhaps Happs Winery and Pottery. Rivendell Winery is open Thursday to Monday from 10-4. The restaurant is a great place to stop for some lunch or for afternoon tea and something sweet. A kids menu is also available. Head back towards Dunsborough down Commonage Road and you’ll come across Simmo’s Ice-creamery, famous for their award winning natural home-made ice cream. Be tempted by the 44 flavours such us Mars Bar, Malteser, Mango and Apple Pie or wind down your day with a round of putt putt or a stroll through the park. BBQ’s are provided as well as a great playground for the kids. A compulsory stop when in Dunsborough! From Simmo’s its only 15 minutes drive back to Mandalay.
