April Happenings

There are a huge number of events occurring in our region during April. With something to interest everyone within the reaches of Mandalay, the south west is the place to be!

The Quit Forest Rally is a Motorsport Extravaganza. Based in Busselton and the picturesque inland town of Nannup, the rally is the host to Round 1 of the 2011 Australian Rally Championship and will attract Australia’s best rally drivers. In 2011 the Rally features the Classic Rally Cars for the first time and look forward to hearing and seeing these great cars from the past.  An estimated 60 cars will enter the rally including Australia’s leading competitors driving Toyotas, Mitsubishis, Subaru’s and more. The rally starts at the very popular Busselton Toyota Super Stage on the Busselton foreshore. The rally will be returning there on Saturday evening. There is also plenty to see in the scenic Nannup region and the Service Park in the main street of Nannup.

From the 4th to the 10th of April the Telstra Drug Aware Pro is held in Margaret River.  The event is a six star 'prime rated' men's and women's international surfing tournament.  This year hosts an impressive field of surfing greats, including world number one and 10-times world champion Kelly Slater. The event is not just about surfing, with live music on the Saturday night and various art exhibitions across the week-long event.

The 16th April marks the beginning of the biggest and most exciting bike riding event to ever hit Margaret River. The normally quiet town of Cowaramup is set to come alive with the “24 Hours in Cowaramup” festival, featuring not only the Delirium bike riding event but also movies in the park, Zumba lessons, talent shows and so much more. The whole 24 hours will be jam-packed with community activities that will ensure everyone is entertained.

For those more interested in sampling our local produce, Aravina Estate is hosting its first Semillon and Seafood Festival accompanied by Brazilian band, Sambalicious.  The festival will features plenty of food and entertainment for locals and visitors, alike.  Sambalicious will entertain the crowds with a mix of funk, Samba-rock and reggae.  Transport is available to Aravina Estate, but numbers are limited so purchase your tickets soon!
